Western Road Trip - [Montana]
Our road trip in Montana was beautiful and fun! We left Yellowstone National Park and headed straight to Big Sky, MT for our first stop, there was not very much for us to do here so we just grabbed some groceries and headed to a dispersed campsite between Big Sky and Bozeman. This dispersed campsite was right on the creek and so we got to get clean and have a good nights rest before heading to Bozeman.
We explored Bozeman the next day and we loved the brewery district of this city. Not because of the beer, but because of the architecture, coffee shops, and bakeries! We told ourselves that we would visit here or maybe take a travel contract out here! Some places that we went to are below! Also, there seems to be no tax included in any of our receipts!
Treeline Coffee Roasters - our fist stop in Bozeman. They also have another location that also serves as their roasting room. Beautiful hip/modern interior with a great americano. Perfect coffee vibes.
Wild Crumb - okay… we had to stop here because the line for this place was wrapping around the building and we have to say, it did not dissapoint. They hand made all their breads and bakeries and they were SO GOOD!
The Coffee Pot - not in the Brewery District, but the coffee shop has the best breakfast menu and makes all their pottery they sell RIGHT ON SITE!
Mountain Walking Brewery - we are not super fans of breweries that serves as a restaurant, but they do have quite the interesting tap list including Japan inspired brews.
From Bozeman we headed to straight to Glacier National Park. The days ahead of us were rainy and we were still recovering from our highly active days in Wyoming so we explored the town of Columbia Falls and West Glacier.
Backslope Brewing - located in Columbia Falls. haven’t had their burgers but apparently they are super good. We had some brews and a bulgogi rice bowl. Prices are super reasonable. The beer costs about $4.
Glacier Distilling - in the West Glacier area. From the outside looks of it it just looks like a barn but they really did a great job with the interior and whiskey bottle designs. Better yet, they offer 2 - 1 ounce tastings per person and are only $5 per tasting. There is also a pleasant surprise 150 ft behind the distilling barn!

In the Summer months you have to get a vehicle pass to drive on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. This road is where you can get to Logan Pass and St Mary (where the known trails are). These sell out quickly but are easy to get through Recreation.gov and are only $2 and are valid for 7 days. If you don’t have a pass, you are allowed to enter before 6 am, that is what we did. We woke up and left our campsite at 4:45 am to drive up the road. We were able to see two bears walking on the road!
Even though we left early and it was foggy/rainy the parking lot at the Logan Pass Visitors Center was PACKED! We decided to come back to the visitors center and look around once the fog starts clearing up so we drove up the road some more to go to St. Mary’s Lake and some waterfalls. This was a perfect easy day hike. The trail led us to three waterfalls (Baring Falls, St. Mary Falls, and Virginia Falls). Once again, on our way to the trailhead, we were able to see a bear walking on the road! We were pretty excited to finally see some bears in bear country!
super foggy days in Montana |
We are excited to be leaving bear country and going to the coast to enjoy a different scenery throughout Washington, Oregon, and California! We are almost halfway done with our Western road trip!
We left Montana earlier than expected because we just were not ‘feeling it’. This is one of the reason we like having no plans because we can just leave to a new destination!
Washington State here we come!
