Dublin, Ireland

The capital of Ireland and the largest city of Ireland as well! A three-hour flight from Edinburgh, and we landed in Dublin. The city of Dublin consists of 2 million people! Dublin is a contemporary and historical center for Irish education, arts and culture, administration, and industry. As of 2018, the city was listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) as a global city, with a ranking of "Alpha minus", which places it as one of the top thirty cities in the world.

Currency: Euro €

From the Dublin airport, you can ride a bus for about 8 euros one way to get to the city center. The bus has quite a lot of stops and three different routes so it is quite nice!

We stayed at Jacobs Inn Hostel.

Pod dorm rooms. Has a beautiful, cozy lobby that also serves great breakfast and coffee. Dorm beds are about €30. Due to covid, we did have a 4 bedroom (pod) room all to ourselves.

Things to see/do in Dublin:

  • St Patrick’s cathedral - founded in 1191, the national cathedral of the Church of Ireland.
  • Guinness Storehouse - they also have a rooftop bar to see the city of Dublin from above! *you have to pay an entrance fee to get to the rooftop bar!
  • Jameson Distillery Bow St. - the original site where Jameson Irish Whiskey was distilled until 1971. A short walk from the city center.
  • Dublin Castle
  • Trinity University
  • Book of Kells - located in the trinity university, this is a book of the Gospels in Latin. It is known for its intricacy, detail, and majesty.
  • The Temple Bar - get a pint of Guinness here!

December 2021: Covid restrictions are getting more strict in Dublin. You need a covid pass to be able to drink or eat indoors. Masks are mandatory in public spaces.

One thing we really enjoyed in Dublin was a Jameson Whiskey Cocktail Making Class.

The class is held in Jameson distillery on Bow St.

Each cocktail class is 60 minutes long and holds up to 10 people and you get a step-by-step guide on making 3 cocktails: whisky sour, old-fashioned, and a winter punch!

You get to learn different equipment and ingredients used in cocktail making and a little bit of history and the making process of Jameson.

I mean… how cool is that?

The price is €50. So not that cheap, but totally worth it in my opinion. If they have an option in the future for different cocktails… I would jump on it!

Will I ever travel there again? No probably not. For me personally, there are a bunch of other countries and cultures that are more unique. However, the culture here is something that I think I will warm up to over time. The city was very rough with increasing crime all around the city. Honestly, I did not feel safe at all… even though Oliver was next to me.
